PIPE collaborated with Jahan Fahimi, MD, MPH (Department of Emergency Medicine, UCSF School of Medicine), Howard Pinderhughes, PhD (Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, UCSF School of Nursing), and Apurva Bhatt, MD (Department of Psychiatry, UC Davis School of Medicine) to develop a special IPE session on The Role of Health Professionals in Preventing Firearm Injury. All UCSF health professions students were invited to attend this session that was held in May 2023.

The session focused on the epidemiology of firearm injury, strategies for identifying patients at risk and intervening, and community resources and advocacy. Students had the opportunity to practice skills in small groups.
