Message from Angel Kuo and Rose Monahan
Dear PIPE Community,
Welcome to the new academic year! We hope you had opportunities over the summer to relax and recharge — or, for those who powered through, at least found a few moments to catch your breath!
We are excited for the year ahead and grateful to begin it alongside such a dedicated and collaborative community. This year brings several leadership transitions for PIPE, including welcoming Dr. Erick Hung as our new Assistant Vice Chancellor in the Office of Education and Student Affairs (OESA). Following the retirement of our longtime PIPE Director, Dr. Maria Wamsley, Rose Monahan and I will serve as Interim Assistant Director and as Interim Director this year. And our dynamic duo, Wendy Brown and Kelsey Eichel, continues to keep us moving forward smoothly and better than ever!
A special thank you to our School Leads, Committee Co-Chairs, faculty, staff, and partners whose creativity and commitment make PIPE’s interprofessional learning experiences possible. We are fortunate to have such an engaged community working together on behalf of our learners.
As we look ahead, we are also taking time to reflect on and reimagine the future of interprofessional education at UCSF. A special workgroup led by Marianne Biangone, SON Associate Dean of Education Programs, with representation from across our 5 health professions schools and programs, is reviewing our current interprofessional offerings and will share a report by the end of the year.
We hope you’ll join us for our annual PIPE Open House on November 4, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. via Zoom to reconnect, learn what’s happening across PIPE, and look ahead together. Register for the open house.

PIPE Curriculum Now in Canvas
In phases, UCSF programs are transitioning from the UCSF CLE to the Canvas LMS. Facilitators will notice that the resources for the CPIP Sessions and ISPE will be hosted on this new platform. Kelsey Eichel will enroll all facilitators in the course and share more details about accessing and using the PIPE sites.

Spotlight on Interprofessional Collaboration Scholar
The IPCS Program is an opportunity for UCSF health professions students to engage in further interprofessional collaboration activities and scholarship, through small group work, simulation, projects, scholarship, and interprofessional clinical immersion experiences. Our IP Scholars may be able to provide some support to your work or participate in your activities to meet IPCS program requirements.

Ali Jahanzaib, DDS, Class of 2027
Ali believes great patient care extends beyond any one health profession. His dental training as a student in the International Dentist Pathway (IDP) has shown him how much patients gain when providers communicate openly and build care around the whole person rather than a single set of needs. Ali brings that perspective to Doctor Buddies, an initiative that prepares children with developmental differences for healthcare experiences. Working alongside colleagues from across the health professions, he is helping expand the program so that more children and families receive care that is positive, accessible, and empowering.
